INTERACTIVE ASTRONOMY WORKSHOP
Universe: More Than Meets the Eye
Facilitator: UCI/UCLA/Harvard Astronomer, Astrobiologist, and TED Fellow
Dr. Aomawa Shields
Created for middle-school girls (grades 6-8) from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences (American Indian or Alaska Native, African-American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander), this workshop will explore constellations in the night sky, planets in and outside of our solar system, and the unseen mysteries of the universe. We will use writing, theater, and games to process what we learn and discover. Bring your open minds, your own stories, and a sense of adventure!
TEACHERS: Activities in this workshop can be done in your classrooms to complement an existing science curriculum, or as an after-school program. And it’s free of charge (funding provided by the National Science Foundation)!
